Embossing is a technique for creating a raised pattern on material, whereas debossing creates a concave effect. They create a subtle contrast on covers, business cards and packaging, conveying a high-quality effect.
Embossing and debossing are 100% eco friendly processes.
Printing is at its best when the quality of the materials speak for themselves and the print jumps off the page. Combining embossing with foils can transform a good piece of print into a great one.
Embossing is the process of creating a raised effect by applying pressure from underneath the card with an engraved die.
Top Tip:
We advise using thicker card when embossing and debossing, this allows for a deeper embossed image.
Debossing creates the opposite effect of creating a depressed image by applying pressure from the top side of the card.
Top Tip:
Keep your design simple, too much detail will work against the overall effect.
To get maximum effect, an embossing or debossing die is not sufficient on its own, you need a counterforce die for the shape to stand out. You can see the male resin die and the female engraved counterforce in this image.
Top Tip:
Vector artwork is best to create dies with clean sharp crisp edges
Multi level embossing creates beautiful shapes, this is a more complex process where the embossing die is CNC engraved to different depths to create a 3D shape. We can help you prepare your artwork to create your own unique 3D shape.

Often used as a security feature.
